Finland tax deadlines: 321,000 citizens face 279 million euros in residual taxes

In early September, 321,000 people in Finland are due to pay a total of 279 million euros in residual taxes. Conversely, 939,000 individuals are set to receive tax refunds totaling 829 million euros.

Regional differences are notable in the tax data. In the Åland Islands, the average residual tax payment is 2,253 euros, significantly higher than the 1,393 euros seen in Uusimaa. The Finnish Tax Administration attributes the higher amounts in Åland to a unique income structure, including higher levels of capital income such as dividends, foreign income, and a high number of entrepreneurs.

Tax refunds, which are expected to average 653 euros per person, are typically the result of deductions reported during the spring tax return process that were not accounted for in the initial tax rate. The Tax Administration advises citizens to check their status via the OmaVero service.
