Finland to reform rental housing laws in 2026

Finland is set to implement significant reforms to rental housing laws starting October 1, 2026. The updates aim to balance the rights of tenants and landlords by adjusting notice periods.

Under the new legislation, the landlord's notice period for long-term rental agreements will be reduced from six months to four months. For new rental agreements lasting less than two years, the notice period for landlords will be set at three months. The tenant's notice period of one month remains unchanged. Additionally, the reform allows landlords to terminate rental agreements without a notice period in cases of serious violations or neglect by the tenant.

The changes will apply to both new and existing rental agreements, though specific rules regarding notice periods will depend on when the original contract was signed.
