Finland women's football team begins World Cup qualifying against Serbia

The Finland women's national football team, known as Helmarit, begins its quest for World Cup qualification with a two-match series against Serbia. The first match is scheduled for Friday, October 9, at Tammelan Stadion in Tampere, followed by a second match in Stara Pazova, Serbia, on Tuesday, October 13.

To reach the tournament in Brazil, Finland must navigate several stages, including potential subsequent qualifying rounds against winners of matchups such as Italy–Belarus. Players Ria Öling and Emma Koivisto have noted that while the path is difficult, the goal is realistic. They emphasized the need for defensive vigilance against Serbia's aggressive counter-attacking style.

Head coach Marko Saloranta and goalkeeper Anna Koivunen are set to represent the team at a pre-match press conference in Tampere. All qualifying matches will be broadcast by Yle.
