Finland's Finance Minister Riikka Purra Unveils €12.9 bn Deficit Budget
On Tuesday in Espoo, Finnish Finance Minister Riikka Purra presented the government's draft state budget for the next fiscal year. The proposal sets total expenditures at €92.2 billion against revenues of €79.4 billion, leaving a projected deficit of €12.9 billion.
Purra said the deficit reflects higher interest costs, which are expected to rise to €4.3 billion next year, and other automatic spending items. She defended ongoing fiscal savings and tax cuts, arguing that the budget remains predictable despite opposition criticism that the discussion is “opposition whining”.
The draft will be negotiated by the governing parties in early September and forms the basis for the final budget that will be presented before the 2027 parliamentary election.
