Finn Oppermann extends contract with Braunschweig Lions through 2027
The Braunschweig Lions have announced that linebacker and fullback Finn Oppermann will remain with the team through the 2027 season. Oppermann, a native of Braunschweig, is entering his seventh season with the club, having progressed through the organization's youth programs since 2016.
Following a challenging 2026 season in which the team finished fifth in the GFL North with four wins and eight losses, the club is prioritizing continuity. In addition to Oppermann's extension, Jens Heinecke has been appointed as the new Defense Coordinator starting in 2027. Head coach Brayden McCombs will remain in his position.
The Braunschweig Lions hold a record twelve German-Bowl titles, with their most recent championship occurring in 2019. The club has undergone various name changes over the decades, including the New Yorker Lions, but has returned to its traditional name as of the 2026 season.
