Finnair launches new daily service to Melbourne via Bangkok
Finnair has commenced a new daily flight service connecting Helsinki to Melbourne via Bangkok, marking the airline's first regular scheduled service to Australia. The route is operated using an Airbus A350 and offers passengers connections to approximately 90 European destinations through Helsinki.
The service utilizes fifth-freedom traffic rights, allowing passengers to book travel specifically between Melbourne and Bangkok. This expansion is expected to contribute an estimated $190 million annually to the Victorian economy. The airline is introducing its AirLounge business class seats to the Australian market, which feature a fixed, contoured shell design that converts into a flat bed.
Melbourne was selected as the Australian gateway due to its year-round demand from business travelers, tourists, international students, and the European community. The flight schedule is designed to facilitate seamless onward travel, with arrivals in Melbourne timed to allow for morning connections and departures from Melbourne timed to align with European morning flights.
