Finnair negotiates inflight Wi‑Fi with Starlink and Amazon Leo

Finnair, Finland’s flag carrier, is in negotiations with SpaceX’s Starlink and Amazon’s Leo satellite services to equip its aircraft fleet with inflight Wi‑Fi. CEO Turkka Kuusisto said the airline plans to formulate a connectivity strategy this year and hopes to reach a final decision by the end of 2026. Discussions were highlighted at the IATA annual general meeting in Rio de Janeiro, where Kuusisto emphasized the need to evaluate long‑term platforms for passenger demand that is growing on Europe‑Asia routes, while US‑bound traffic remains flat.

The move mirrors a broader European airline trend toward high‑speed satellite internet. Starlink is already used by carriers such as Emirates, Lufthansa and United, while Amazon’s service powers Delta’s inflight connectivity. Finnair also noted stable fuel‑reserve visibility despite broader market disruptions caused by the ongoing Middle‑East conflict.
