Finnair posts record Q2 earnings and traffic growth on strong Asian demand

Finnair announced a record comparable operating profit of €78.4 million in the second quarter, up sharply from €10.3 million a year earlier. Revenue rose 16.4 % to €916.7 million, and the airline carried 3.3 million passengers, a 7.6 % increase.

The carrier’s cabin factor improved to 79.9 % and revenue per available seat kilometre grew 14.1 %. Growth was strongest on Asian routes, especially to Japan, where the cabin factor rose to 82.6 % and passenger revenue increased from €216.5 million to €258.3 million. Demand for holiday travel to Thailand also remained robust. The results were bolstered by higher yields after reduced Europe‑Asia capacity following the Middle‑East conflict and the continued restriction of Russian airspace.

Finnair’s November traffic showed a 10.5 % rise in passenger numbers and a 3.6 % increase in capacity, with load factor climbing 4.5 percentage points to 73 %. Asian traffic grew 15.6 % and European traffic 12.3 % compared with the prior year.
