Wilma Heltelä wins silver in pole vault at European Athletics Championships

At the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, Finnish athlete Wilma Heltelä secured a silver medal in the women’s pole vault with a height of 475 cm. Heltelä, who previously won gold in 2022, overcame a challenging period marked by injuries and mental health struggles to return to the podium. She engaged in a close competition with Switzerland’s Angelica Moser, who took the gold with a height of 480 cm.

In addition to Heltelä’s success, Silja Kosonen won the gold medal in the women’s hammer throw with a throw of 76.28 meters. Other Finnish participants included Ilona Mononen, who competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and various athletes in the javelin and relay events.

Heltelä credited her resurgence to her coaching team, including Tero Pitkämäki and Tommi Holttinen, expressing deep trust in their collaborative work following her recent professional transitions.
