Finnish consumers increase caution despite improved financial stability

According to the European Consumer Payment Behavior Report by Intrum, Finnish consumers are exhibiting increased caution despite an overall improvement in their financial stability compared to last year.

While confidence in the ability to meet financial obligations has grown—with the proportion of those struggling with debt falling from 17% to 11%—economic uncertainty is driving more conservative decision-making. Specifically, 63% of respondents reported being more cautious regarding major purchases like cars or housing, up from 53% in 2025. Additionally, 59% of consumers are now avoiding financial risks, such as changing jobs or starting businesses, compared to 52% the previous year.
