Finnish cultural events announced for theater and FinnFest 2026

Cultural programming in Finland and the Finnish diaspora is highlighted through upcoming theatrical productions and international festivals. In Finland, Lilla Teatern has announced its fall and spring seasons, focusing on themes of Swedish-speaking Finnish identity, nationalism, and social issues. Upcoming productions include Christer Kihlman’s ‘Hundarna i Casablanca’ and a new narrative titled ‘Verandan’ by Claes Andersson, Johan Bargum, and Vivica Bandler.

In the United States, FinnFest 2026 will take place in Minneapolis from September 17–20. Sponsored by the Finlandia Foundation National, the festival will feature music, history, and community programming. Highlights include performances by singer Ruut, a lecture by Jay Smith regarding Finnish-American founder John Morton, and the premiere of the play ‘MORTON: The Forgotten Founder’. The event also includes networking opportunities for young professionals through the Young Leaders program.
