Finnish Lawmaker Jukka Kopra Calls Ceuta Border Crisis a European Security Threat

Jukka Kopra, chair of the Kokoomus parliamentary group in Finland, warned that the surge of illegal migrants arriving in Ceuta, the Spanish enclave on the North African coast, is a security issue for the entire European Union. He said the situation demonstrates that the EU’s external borders must remain effective for the Schengen area to function.

Kopra stressed that Finland is prepared to take swift measures to protect its own security and to support Spain, calling for rapid joint action by the EU and Frontex. He urged the Union to strengthen its capacity to assist member states facing exceptional migration pressure and to ensure that irregular arrivals can be returned efficiently. Kopra also noted that Finland could re‑introduce internal border checks if a security assessment deems it necessary.
