Finnish man faces 13-year sentence for human trafficking

A 45-year-old Finnish man faces a requested 13-year prison sentence following a trial at the West Uusimaa District Court involving charges of human trafficking and rape. Prosecutors allege the man exploited ten women from Colombia, whom he lured to Finland with false promises of relationships and employment via dating services.

According to prosecutor Jenni Louhenperä-Kivinen, the victims were kept under the man's control between 2019 and 2024 in Espoo and Kirkkonummi. The prosecution claims the defendant, who worked in the construction industry, presented himself as a wealthy businessman despite being under a business ban and having significant debt. The charges include three counts of aggravated human trafficking, seven counts of human trafficking, two counts of aggravated rape, and rape.
