Finnish municipalities Janakkala and Akaa approve local administrative changes

Municipal councils in Janakkala and Akaa have passed several administrative and educational decisions.

In Janakkala, the council unanimously decided to transfer the organization of upper secondary education to Koulutuskuntayhtymä Tavastia, effective January 1, 2028. This move aims to create educational synergies and expand course selections for students. Additionally, the council approved a youth movement program for 2026–2030 and established principles for creating safe spaces within the municipality. The council also reviewed a mid-year financial report showing a deficit of approximately 0.2 million euros for the first half of 2026.

In Akaa, the council confirmed the location of the upper secondary school in the Toijala station area. The city also committed to participating in local train traffic procurement starting in 2031, in cooperation with Traficom and other municipalities in the Tampere region, with an annual net cost limit of approximately 500,000 euros. Furthermore, Minna Kallio was appointed as the new Director of Education, and a temporary committee was established to prepare for the dismissal of the audit committee leadership.
