Finnish Police warn of tax refund scams

The Finnish Police have issued a warning regarding an increase in scams impersonating the Finnish Tax Administration. As tax refund periods approach, criminals are using email, text messages, and phone calls to attempt to steal bank credentials, credit card information, and other personal data.

Scammers may promise tax refunds or demand payment for overdue taxes, often directing victims to click malicious links or log in to fraudulent services. Criminals are increasingly utilizing artificial intelligence to make phone calls sound more convincing, with callers able to speak fluent Finnish.

The Tax Administration emphasizes that it never requests personal information via message. Police advise individuals not to open links or attachments from suspicious messages and to contact their bank immediately if they suspect they have been targeted, as stolen funds are often transferred rapidly.
