Finnish Prospect Konsta Helenius Emerges as Top NHL Breakout Candidate

Konsta Helenius, a 20‑year‑old forward drafted 14th overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2024 NHL Draft, has rapidly risen as a leading prospect for the 2026‑27 Calder Trophy. After scoring 14 goals and 36 points in 51 games with Finland’s Liiga club Jukurit, he posted 14 goals and 35 points in 65 AHL games for the Rochester Americans, then improved to 21 goals and 63 points in 63 games the following season, ranking ninth in league scoring and earning a place on the 2025‑26 AHL All‑Prospects Team.

Internationally, Helenius contributed six assists in seven games at the 2024‑25 U20 IIHF World Junior Championship and later tallied three goals and six points in six games at the senior World Championship, scoring the overtime winner that secured the gold medal for Team Finland. His strong performances have positioned him for a potential Sabres roster spot in the 2026‑27 NHL season.
