Finnish Referee Assault Stops Nelonen Football Match
A men's football match in Finland's Nelonen league was halted after a player violently attacked referee Salim Ghandagh. The incident occurred around the 75th minute when the player, already on a caution, punched the referee in the face and then kicked him in the head while the referee was on the ground.
Police and an ambulance were dispatched; the referee received first‑aid treatment and avoided serious injury. The Finnish Football Association reported the case to the police, filed a criminal complaint, and announced that disciplinary proceedings will also be pursued.
