Finnish Singer Jani Wickholm Dies at 48
Finnish pop‑rock singer Jani Wickholm died on 23 June 2024 at the age of 48. The death notice published in Helsingin Sanomat includes a tribute verse: “Sun laulusi täällä on vaiennut, sun kitarasi hiljaa soinut.” He was buried in a private ceremony attended by close family.
Wickholm first gained national fame as the runner‑up on the debut season of the Finnish Idols singing competition in 2003‑2004, behind winner Hanna Pakarinen. Over the years he struggled with several health problems, including thyroid deficiency and, from spring 2024, diagnosed liver cirrhosis that required prolonged hospital care. Friends such as musician Timo Niinimäki said the loss will be felt in the Finnish music scene and confirmed that a memorial concert is planned later in the year.
