Finnish Taxi Association disputes new taxi legislation

The Finnish Taxi Association is addressing flaws in recent taxi legislation, specifically regarding taximeter requirements and vehicle identification. The association argues that taximeters are essential for reliable mileage recording, tax compliance, and preventing data manipulation, even for app-based services.

While the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority (KKV) has expressed reservations about extending taximeter mandates to all taxis and questioned the necessity of colored license plates, the Taxi Association maintains these measures are vital for consumer trust and combating the shadow economy. The association notes that in Sweden, taximeter requirements apply to all taxis and colored plates have been used since 1990. They emphasize that colored plates serve as a reliable indicator of a regulated, licensed operator, whereas taxi roof signs can be easily imitated.
