Finnish welfare areas begin autumn vaccination campaigns

Public health authorities in Finland are preparing for the autumn influenza and COVID-19 vaccination campaigns. In the North Savo welfare area, vaccinations are scheduled to begin on October 12, with appointments opening on October 5. The rollout prioritizes individuals aged 80 and older, as well as residents of care homes and those receiving home care.

In the North Ostrobothnia welfare area (Pohde), vaccinations will commence during the last week of October. Appointments for Pohde will open in stages by age group starting October 6. Priority is given to elderly residents in service homes, those receiving regular home care, and individuals with severe immunodeficiencies.

Both regions follow the recommendations of the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL). Vaccinations are free of charge for specific high-risk groups, including those aged 65 and older, pregnant women, children under seven, and individuals starting military service. Other groups may need to pay for the vaccines.
