Finnish youth sports clubs launch new seasons for junior athletes
Youth sports organizations in Finland are preparing for new seasons. Ilves football is hosting open training sessions for children born between 2016 and 2018, with specific introductory periods for the 2019 age group. Selection for competitive junior teams is based on motivation, skill, and physical attributes.
In Laitila, the Jyske ice sports division held a joint season kickoff event for over 200 junior ice hockey and ringette players. The event included activities at both the ice rink and an athletics field to foster community. Despite challenges with shrinking age groups and lower participation from immigrant communities, the organization continues to recruit through active marketing and combined age groups.
