Fintech sectors in Australia and Singapore see growth and AI integration

The fintech sectors in Australia and Singapore are experiencing diverse developments in profitability, talent, and artificial intelligence integration. In Australia, a study by RSM Australia reveals that 47% of surveyed fintech startups have reached breakeven, with 62% of those generating over AUD 1 million in revenue. Notably, 28% of these ventures remain bootstrapped, and half of those are profitable.

In Singapore, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and the Global Finance & Technology Network (GFTN) have selected 18 finalists for the 2026 Global Fintech Hackcelerator. The program aims to connect early-stage startups with institutions like GXS Bank, Julius Baer, and Zurich Insurance to solve industry challenges using AI.

Technological shifts are also reshaping operations. iCapital reported that while AI now generates 75% of its code, the company continues to hire product and engineering staff in Singapore to meet growing demand for sophisticated investment analytics. Meanwhile, the compliance firm WIDTH celebrated its 12th anniversary by launching an AI-native risk decision intelligence platform and a talent development hub.

However, the rise of agentic AI presents new operational risks. Industry discussions at the Singapore Fintech Festival highlighted the challenge of human fatigue, where operators may stop properly reviewing AI-generated reports due to over-reliance on the technology’s perceived reliability.
