Fiorano Modenese expands cigarette butt recycling campaign
The municipality of Fiorano Modenese has installed 15 new collection stations for cigarette butts as part of the ‘Riciccami’ campaign. This initiative, promoted by the start-up Human Maple in collaboration with Hera Group and approved by Atersir, aims to combat littering and promote a circular economy.
With these additions, there are now 20 collection points distributed across strategic locations in the territory. The project is being implemented on an experimental basis at no cost to the municipality. The collected filters, including those from electronic cigarettes, are processed at the Human Maple plant in Modena. The cellulose acetate is recovered and repurposed into thermal insulation material for products such as keychains and cushions, with further applications in sustainable fashion and insulation currently under study.
