Fiorentina completes Joao Mario signing amid club’s revival

Portuguese right‑back Joao Mario, 26, has joined ACF Fiorentina on a season‑long loan from FC Porto with a €1.8 million fee and an option to buy for €9.5 million at the end of the season. The move follows his successful spell on loan at Bologna and adds to Fiorentina’s recent recruitment drive.

Regional president Eugenio Giani recalled the club’s rebirth after the 2002 bankruptcy, noting his role in founding the new entity that was later sold to the Della Valle family and now owned by the Commisso brothers. Giani praised Joseph Commisso’s management and highlighted plans to upgrade the stadium in time for a possible Euro 2032 hosting bid. The signing underscores Fiorentina’s ambition to restore its historic stature in Italian football.
