CAF President Motsepe urges democratic vote for FIFA leadership

Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has called for the future of FIFA president Gianni Infantino to be decided through democratic processes and official elections. This statement comes amid mounting pressure from several major football organizations, including UEFA, CONCACAF, and the AFC, which have expressed a loss of confidence in Infantino’s leadership.

The controversy stems from Infantino’s proposals regarding the sale of World Cup shares to private investors. While several national federations, including Ireland, have withdrawn their support for the current leadership, Motsepe maintains that any desire to remove the president should follow FIFA’s established procedures. He emphasized that the 211 member associations should decide the outcome during the upcoming elections scheduled for March 2027 in Rabat, Morocco.
