Fiorentina revamps midfield under Grosso, echoing 2012 Montella model

Italian club ACF Fiorentina, now led by coach Fabio Grosso and sporting director Fabio Paratici, is rebuilding its midfield around a technical, possession‑based philosophy reminiscent of Vincenzo Montella’s 2012 side. The new approach prioritises quality over physicality, aiming to dominate games by keeping the ball. Recent signings include Ivorian midfielder Christ Oula (Christ Inao Oulai), who joins Arthur Atta and Nicolò Fagioli to form a youthful core with an average age about six years younger than the 2012 trio of Pizarro, Borja Valero and Aquilani. The club reiterated the mantra: “Se la palla la teniamo sempre noi, non possono averla gli altri” – if we always have the ball, opponents cannot have it.
