Fiorentina gears up for new era with Fabio Grosso appointment

Former Italy defender Fabio Grosso is set to become the new head coach of Fiorentina, with the club confirming the appointment in the coming hours. The technical staff will be formalised before the season opener against Roma at the Olimpico.

Club executives Alessandro Ferrari and sporting director Fabio Paratici will travel to New York for a summit with president Giuseppe Commisso and his family to define the season’s budget, transfer strategy and organisational overhaul. The meeting is expected to address player sales, a reduced wage bill and investment limits imposed by the Commisso family.

Fiorentina’s first target under Grosso is midfielder Cristian Volpato, with a fee estimated at €15 million, seen as the most affordable option compared with higher‑priced alternatives. Other interests such as Armand Laurienté and Ismael Koné are projected to be out of reach financially. The club also considers the possible sale of M'Bala Nzola.

Meanwhile, Sassuolo announced Alberto Aquilani as its new coach after Grosso’s departure, underscoring the ripple effect of the Fiorentina changes across Serie A.
