Fire and safety inspections reported in Quebec regions

In Sept-Îles, an overnight fire on Père-Divet Street caused significant damage, resulting in the total loss of two businesses: the Coopérative de solidarité d’aide à domicile de la MRC des Sept-Rivières and Pâtisserie Disney. A rented warehouse belonging to Santé Québec Côte-Nord was also affected, with equipment losses estimated at $1 million. The destroyed items include essential medical supplies such as wheelchairs, electric beds, and mobility aids intended for users with physical or intellectual disabilities. To mitigate the impact on users, Santé Québec plans to repatriate equipment from other facilities across the Côte-Nord region.

In La Malbaie, the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ) identified six non-conformities during a September 29 inspection of the Centre communautaire de Charlevoix Victor Carré. Five issues relate to fire safety, while the sixth concerns the annual inspection of the backflow prevention device. The center has been granted 60 to 90 days to implement corrections. While the director general, Angela Lavoie, noted that repairing the broken sprinkler system remains a primary challenge, she expressed confidence in resolving the issues. The center is currently developing a building health record, supported by $31,527 in funding from the MRC de Charlevoix-Est.
