Fire at Al Hidayah Tower in Mecca Evacuates Indonesian Hajj Pilgrims, No Casualties

On the evening of 6 June 2026, a fire broke out at the Al Hidayah Tower complex in the Aziziah district of Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The blaze started when a hotel employee was charging an electric‑scooter battery in a staff room, causing the battery to overheat and explode. Three fire‑engine units were dispatched, and the flames were fully extinguished by about 20:00 local time.

The incident prompted the evacuation of hundreds of Indonesian pilgrims staying in towers 6, 7 and 8 of the complex. The Pilgrims’ Service Organization (PPIH) confirmed that all evacuees were safely returned to their rooms and that there were no injuries or fatalities. PPIH head Ihsan Faisal told media, “All our pilgrims are safe; none were hurt.” After the fire was controlled, the pilgrims were allowed to resume their stay. The authorities reminded pilgrims to avoid using or charging electronic devices unattended in the accommodation.

The fire, which affected a key Indonesian Hajj housing site, caused no loss of life and was contained without spreading to nearby towers.
