Police Investigate Possible Series of Vehicle Fires in Bernburg, Germany
On the night of Tuesday, two cars were set ablaze in Bernburg, Saxony-Anhalt. Firefighters extinguished the flames and prevented the fire from spreading to nearby structures. The incident raises concerns of a serial arson, as the total number of vehicles damaged since June has risen to 13.
Earlier in June, nine cars burned on Walther Street and two more on Blumen Street, also causing damage to two residential building façades. Police spokesperson Marco Kopitz said several leads exist but a decisive clue to the perpetrator is still missing. Authorities are urging witnesses who saw suspicious persons, vehicles, or heard unusual noises to contact the Salzlandkreis police station.
The investigation remains open, with no suspect currently identified and a previously detained suspect released due to insufficient evidence.
