Fire at São José commercial building leaves two people unconscious
A blaze broke out at a commercial premises on Rua João Grumiche in the Roçado neighbourhood of São José, part of the Greater Florianópolis area, on the night of 8 December. Thick smoke spread to adjacent neighbourhoods Roçado, Kobrasol and Campinas, causing breathing difficulties for residents.
The Santa Catarina Military Fire Department (CBMSC) dispatched five fire engines and 17 firefighters. They fought the flames with indirect attacks to lower interior temperatures and conducted simultaneous operations: direct fire suppression on the ground floor and search‑and‑rescue on the second floor. Two victims found unconscious on the upper level were rescued, attended by SAMU personnel and taken to Hospital Regional de São José.
After the fire was extinguished, crews ventilated the building to clear remaining smoke and performed a thorough overhaul. The property was left under the owner’s care.
