Fire breaks out in Oakland-Berkeley hills
A vegetation fire ignited in the East Bay hills near the Oakland-Berkeley border on Tuesday morning, specifically around the 800 to 1000 block of Panoramic Way. The blaze, located between the Claremont Resort and Club and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, burned approximately 2 to 3 acres.
Firefighting agencies including the Berkeley Fire Department, Oakland Fire Department, Cal Fire, and the Alameda County Fire Department responded to the scene. Crews utilized helicopters for water drops to assist in containment. While the fire was described as having a slow rate of spread, at least one residential structure was damaged.
No injuries were immediately reported. The incident occurred on the 35th anniversary of the catastrophic Oakland Hills firestorm, which killed 25 people and caused significant destruction in 1991.
