Fire chief Deiby Arboleda assassinated in Anorí, Colombia
Deiby Arboleda, the fire chief of Anorí in the Nordeste region of Antioquia, was assassinated on Thursday, August 27. His body was discovered with fatal gunshot wounds on a rural road leading toward the La Plancha district, approximately five kilometers from the municipal center.
The discovery was made by a worker involved in local paving projects. Local government secretary Isaí Cortés noted that the victim was identified after he failed to respond to a call to assist in recovering a body in a rural area—a task typically handled by firefighters due to their humanitarian status and the risks faced by police in areas controlled by illegal armed groups.
Authorities are currently investigating the motives behind the killing. While the region is known to be affected by illegal armed groups, no specific organization has been held responsible for the attack at this time.
