Fire departments implement safety initiatives and training programs
Fire departments in Taiwan and Hong Kong are launching various initiatives to enhance residential and building fire safety.
In Taiwan, the Jieshou Fire Brigade collaborated with the Family Link Foundation to promote the use of residential smoke alarms. The brigade emphasized the importance of early detection to provide residents with critical evacuation time and advised regular maintenance of alarm batteries and equipment.
In Hong Kong, the Fire Services Department is implementing a multi-pronged approach to improve building safety. This includes the ‘Building Emergency Pioneer Scheme,’ which has already recruited approximately 41,000 participants, including property management staff and security personnel. The department aims to train 50,000 pioneers by 2027.
Additionally, the Hong Kong Fire Services Department has introduced the ‘Building Emergency Preparedness Charter’ and is working with the Property Management Regulatory Authority to provide systematic training. A new ‘Code of Conduct Charter’ for registered fire service installation contractors is also planned for mid-October to improve professional standards and ensure high-quality fire engineering maintenance.
