Fire departments in Essen and Wilnis showcase emergency services

Fire departments in Essen, Belgium, and Wilnis, Netherlands, are highlighting the work of emergency responders through community engagement and volunteer profiles.

The Essen fire department held an open house event where visitors observed various demonstrations, including ladder truck operations, chimney fire responses, and technical rescues involving heavy containers. Despite rainy weather, the event provided a look into the teamwork and specialized equipment used by the service.

In Wilnis, volunteer firefighter Jeroen van Schie shared insights into the commitment required for the role. He described the constant readiness needed to respond to emergencies such as fires or traffic accidents. The service prepares volunteers through medical exams, physical tests, and assessments before they begin training to handle high-adrenaline situations.
