Residential fires in Catalonia and Andorra cause death and major destruction
Two separate major fires have occurred in recent days, resulting in casualties and significant property destruction in Catalonia and Andorra.
A fire at a residential care home in L'Ametlla del Vallès, Barcelona, resulted in one death and left dozens injured. Emergency services reported that 78 people were attended to, with 13 individuals hospitalized for smoke inhalation. The blaze, which began on the first floor of the four-story building, prompted the evacuation of residents and staff. While the fire was brought under control by firefighters, the first and second floors were rendered uninhabitable.
In Andorra, a large-scale fire destroyed the La Querola luxury residential complex in Ordino. The blaze quickly spread through seven apartment blocks, affecting approximately 22,000 square meters of residential and parking space. Although the fire caused massive structural damage to the high-end development, authorities confirmed there were no injuries or fatalities, as the complex was not yet inhabited. Firefighters from both Andorra and Catalonia worked to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading into surrounding forested areas.
