Fire Destroys Nápoles Nightclub in Asunción's City Center

A blaze engulfed the Nápoles nightclub in the micro‑center of Asunción on Sunday around midday, completely destroying the venue's interior. The fire was reported by witnesses as smoke rose from the building, prompting a large response from the Cuerpo de Bomberos Voluntarios del Paraguay.

No staff were on the premises at the time, and the owner, Héctor Vergara, told local media that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit triggered during an attempted theft of copper wiring from the air‑conditioning equipment. The fire service captain Marco Almada said investigators will conduct technical inspections to confirm the exact cause. The thick smoke forced partial traffic restrictions around the historic downtown area while firefighters worked to contain the flames and cool the structure.
