Fire engulfs Okayama city center shopping district

A fire broke out around 11:40 am on July 31 in Okayama City’s northern Bōkan‑chō district. The blaze started in a shop within the central shopping arcade and quickly spread to the surrounding arcade, producing thick white smoke.

Firefighters deployed about 14 fire trucks and continued suppression efforts, but the fire had not been fully extinguished at the time of reporting. No injuries were reported. The incident occurred near the west exit of JR Okayama Station, causing temporary disruption and alarm in the area.
