Fire in Brugherio kills retired doctor who jumped from fourth floor

A fire broke out on the evening of 1 August in an apartment on the fourth floor of a building in Brugherio, a town in the province of Monza and Brianza, Italy. The blaze quickly spread to the attic and the wooden roof covering, prompting a large-scale response from the fire services of Monza‑Brianza and Milan, including two fire engines, two water‑tenders, two aerial ladders and a rescue vehicle.

Stefano Bramati, a 64‑year‑old retired doctor, was trapped by the flames and smoke. Facing no viable escape route, he leapt from the balcony to the street below. He was rescued by emergency medical personnel and taken to the hospital in Vimercate, where he died from the injuries sustained in the fall. Investigators are still examining the cause of the fire, which is believed to have originated inside the apartment.

The incident required several hours of firefighting to contain the blaze and secure the building, and authorities are conducting technical inspections to determine the exact origin of the fire.
