Fire in Karabük, Turkey kills 2‑year‑old child
A house fire broke out in Davutlar village, part of Karabük province in Turkey, at a detached home owned by Ahmet Ç. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation. Firefighters, gendarmerie, forest service crews, health teams and AFAD responders quickly contained the flames, which had spread to two neighboring houses.
Two‑year‑old Berkant K. was found deceased inside the locked home. According to initial reports, his parents were gathering lilac in the back of the house when the fire started, leaving the child alone inside. His grandmother was heard crying, "Yavrum gitti" (my child is gone). The child's body was taken to Karabük Training and Research Hospital for an autopsy. Authorities have opened a formal inquiry to determine the fire’s origin.
