Fire incidents rise in South Tangerang amid waste burning concerns
Fire incidents in South Tangerang have increased significantly, with 115 cases recorded as of October 11, 2026. This figure is nearly double the previous annual average of approximately 68 cases. Ahmad Dohiri, Head of the South Tangerang Fire and Rescue Service, attributed the rise partly to dry weather conditions. Notably, approximately 30 percent of these fires were caused by improper waste burning, a factor that has risen from being a minor cause to a primary driver of incidents.
In response to fire risks, authorities in Yogyakarta are conducting community education programs. In the Ngampilan district, the Yogyakarta Fire and Rescue Service provided residents with training on fire prevention and practical firefighting techniques. The training focused on identifying hazards such as faulty electrical installations, cooking activities, and flammable materials, while teaching the ‘fire triangle’ concept to improve household preparedness.
