Fire Kills Elderly Couple in São Sepé, Brazil

A fire broke out early Thursday at the Cabanha Plátano residence in São Sepé, Brazil. The blaze claimed the lives of an 84‑year‑old man, João Maurício Faria Carvalho, and his 78‑year‑old wife, Valdelei Silva Carvalho. Their son‑in‑law escaped the house with thermal injuries after attempting to retrieve a fire extinguisher.

The military fire brigade contained the flames, and the site was isolated by the Brigada Militar until the Police Civil and the Institute of General Forensics arrived for investigation. Preliminary information suggests the fire may have started from a spark emitted by a fireplace, though the cause remains under review.
