Fire Prevention Week highlights safety planning and battery charging risks
During Fire Prevention Week, which runs from October 4 to 10, organizations are emphasizing the importance of comprehensive fire safety programs and specific battery charging precautions.
In Texas, the Texas A&M Forest Service is promoting safe lithium-ion battery usage to mitigate wildfire risks. The agency highlighted that damaged batteries or unsafe charging can lead to thermal runaway, causing overheating or explosions. To support local efforts, the service provided wildfire prevention outreach boxes to volunteer fire departments to assist with community education.
Effective fire safety programs require more than just written emergency plans. Key components include clearly assigned employee roles with designated backups for every shift, specific training for hazardous tasks, and regular evacuation drills to test the practical application of emergency protocols.
