Fire safety and building security standards in Poland
Building safety and fire protection standards emphasize the critical role of proper door selection and maintenance. Fire-rated doors are classified by their EI rating, where 'E' denotes fire tightness and 'I' denotes fire insulation. The numerical value indicates the duration in minutes the door maintains these properties during a fire test.
EI30 doors provide 30 minutes of protection and are typically used to separate specific zones as required by fire protection documentation. EI60 doors offer 60 minutes of protection and are utilized in residential, warehouse, office, and public utility buildings where longer resistance is mandated by design.
Beyond technical specifications, maintaining building security through closed entrance doors is essential. Leaving stairwell doors open or propped open increases risks of theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access. Furthermore, keeping entrance doors closed helps maintain building temperatures and reduces heating costs in common areas. Fire safety regulations, as noted by the State Fire Service, require that while doors should be closed to secure the building, they must not be locked in a way that obstructs evacuation during emergencies.
