Fire service updates reported in Honduras and Dominican Republic
In Honduras, the construction of a new fire station in Sonaguera, Colón, is entering its final stage. The project, located in the Estándar neighborhood, was executed with support from the U.S. Southern Command. Once completed, the Honduras Fire Department plans to deploy a fire truck and assign permanent personnel to the site. Currently, emergencies in Sonaguera are handled by the Sabá station, which results in longer response times due to travel distances.
In the Dominican Republic, the Santo Domingo Este Fire Department has denied reports of operational deficiencies. Following an investigation alleging shortages in vehicles, ambulances, and specialized equipment, the institution stated that its stations are properly conditioned and its personnel are trained. The department emphasized that response times are subject to coordination through the National Emergency System 9-1-1 and must account for traffic and the nature of the emergency.
