Firefighter Diego Martins recovers shoulder mobility after surgery

Diego Martins de Lima, a 36-year-old military firefighter, has regained movement in his right shoulder following surgery and physiotherapy. The injury originated from a motorcycle accident in 2012 in Cristalina, Goiás, which resulted in shoulder dislocation and fractures to his tibia and fibula.

For over a decade, Martins dealt with chronic instability that caused pain and hindered his ability to perform rescue operations, sleep, and engage in physical activities. While he initially opted for conservative treatment, the limitations became increasingly evident during his training with the Military Fire Brigade of the Federal District.

Orthopedic surgeon Kaleu Costa Nery explained that the structures maintaining joint stability were compromised. Martins underwent surgery in September 2024 to address the chronic instability and prevent being forced out of his profession due to physical limitations.
