Firefighter electrocuted during Medina fire intervention
A firefighter was seriously injured by electrocution while responding to a room fire in the Medina district on Friday, September 11, 2026. Corporal Chief C. Sène, of the 11th Malick Sy fire company, was struck by an electric shock as he was exiting the affected room.
Investigators noted that although the building's power supply had been cut prior to the intervention, the accident occurred, leading authorities to suspect the presence of a clandestine electrical connection. Following the incident, Corporal Chief Sène was urgently evacuated to the Dakar Principal Hospital for medical treatment.
Occupants of the residence were reportedly reluctant to answer questions regarding the nature of the electrical connections. Further investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the electrocution.
