Bilecik firefighter injured while tackling roof fire in abandoned building

A fire broke out on the roof of a three‑storey abandoned house on Çakallı Street in Bilecik city centre. Residents saw the flames and promptly called the 112 emergency number. Firefighters from the Bilecik municipal fire department arrived together with police and crews from the electricity and gas utilities. The blaze was extinguished quickly, but while working on the roof firefighter Mustafa O. stepped on a weak board that gave way, causing him to fall to the lower floor. He was treated on‑site and transferred to Bilecik Education and Research Hospital.

Neighbourhood resident Yasemin Çağan highlighted the broader problem, saying, "Our district is full of derelict houses. We repeatedly call the police, yet nothing changes. We want these unsafe buildings removed." Local authorities have opened an investigation into the incident and the condition of the abandoned structures.
