Firefighters and Farmers Stop Small Rural Fires in Wales and England

On 3 August, a fire broke out on a hedgerow and grass strip near the village of Norton in Radnorshire, Wales. A passer‑by reported the blaze and local fire crews from Presteigne and Knighton arrived quickly, using a hose reel jet and two main jets to extinguish the 17‑metre fire by 19:56.

Two days earlier, on 1 August, a standing‑crop fire erupted near Market Drayton in Shropshire, England. Farmers working in the field created a firebreak with heavy machinery before emergency crews arrived. Firefighters from Market Drayton and Telford Central, supported by a 4×4 incident unit and a high‑pressure lance, extinguished the roughly 30 square‑metre blaze. Both incidents caused no injuries and were praised for the swift cooperation between the public and fire services.
