Firefighters conduct large-scale emergency drill in Terfen tunnel
Approximately 300 firefighters from the Schwaz, Innsbruck-Land, and Kufstein districts conducted a large-scale emergency drill in the Terfen railway tunnel in Austria. The exercise involved six tunnel trains and 46 vehicles, supported by representatives from the ÖBB.
The drill focused on three primary areas: establishing and maintaining radio communications within the tunnel, firefighting techniques including structural cooling and hose management, and systematic search and rescue operations using marking lights. The exercise utilized six emergency exits to simulate real-world challenges such as confined spaces and limited access to rescue routes. The Terfen tunnel is currently closed for the construction of an overtaking station until September 14, providing a window for these safety procedures.
